In the spring of 2004, the TOS Executive Board, with the cooperation of the compilers of the Texas column of North American Birds magazine, decided to publish the unabridged seasonal reports prepared for that publication. These reports are submitted by sub-regional editors and are compiled into the Texas regional report for North American Birds. This regional report along with other regional reports from across the US, Canada, Mexico, Central America, the West Indies & Bermuda is published quarterly in North American Birds magazine. Each issue also includes articles on rare bird trends, articles on specific rarities such as first North American records and a rare bird photo gallery.
These reports contain essentially the same information as prepared for the TOS seasonal reports by the TOS Regional Directors, but are compiled on a much tighter schedule. They are, therefore, ready much sooner after the end of the reporting period. The Texas regional report published in North American Birds provides an excellent summary of these sub-regional reports, but leaves out many of these sightings due to space limitations.
These reports have been edited slightly by Ron Weeks, but are published here in their complete form.
