January 15th-17th 2009  Bay City, TX

Bay City, Texas will be the headquarters for TOS' "Fall" meeting from January 15th-17th, 2009.  Join our hosts from the Matagorda County Birding Nature Center as we focus on the rich mix of wintering species - this area has the greatest diversity of anywhere in the country.  Our keynote speaker will be noted hummingbird expert, Bob Sargent, from Alabama.  Bob bands hummers all over the country but especially so in the Southeast.  He will share with us his insights in to the wintering populations of these popular little birds.

We are also beginning to work out the field trips with our focus being spots you've likely never before visited.  Ever been to Big Boggy Nathional Wildlife Refuge in Matagorda County?  Well, this is your chance.  The Columbia Bottomlands preservation effort has also protected many new tracts in this area including additions to the San Bernard NWR one of which holds the state champion Live Oak.  Other spots we hope to visit include the Justin Hurst and Nannie Stringfellow WMAs, the Nature Conservancy's Mad Island Marsh Preserve, the Matagorda Peninsula and many more.

So mark your calendars and join us in Bay City!

More details to follow.
