Mary Edna Crawford Bird Sanctuary in High Island Walter and Mary Crawford have graciously donated two acres to the Society's sanctuaries. Located at High Island, and sharing in the southwest property line with Houston Audubon Society's Smith Oaks Sanctuary, this is a major addition to the bird sanctuaries on the Upper Coast. Look for our welcome sign, "Texas Ornithological Society's Mary Edna Crawford Bird Sanctuary: as you drive up the paved road, and just before the gift shop (Birder's Haven) that is before the Smith Oaks Sanctuary. We are going to need to do some planting here, but there is a lot of dense woods on and around the property, and at least one large live oak in the middle. It will truely be a sanctuary for migrating birds. Long time TOS members, the Crawfords have taken a major step for the birds. Thank you so much Walter and Mary Edna!
