Come celebrate 60 years of TOS. The next semi-annual TOS meeting will be held in Williamson County, Texas, January 16-20, 2014. Headquarters for the meeting will be at the Wingate Inn and Conference Center in Round Rock, Texas. I am excited to announce our guest speakers for this event—Kim Risen, Sandy Komito, and Victor Emanuel. Kim is the owner of NatureScape Tours in Minnesota and is known to many of our members who have had the opportunity to attend one of the Duluth or recent Chicken Run trips he has lead for TOS. On the recent Chicken Run I had several participants tell me “please sign me up for any trip that Kim will be leading for TOS.” Not only is Kim a very knowledgeable guide for birds, but he is very personable and knowledgeable about a myriad of subjects encountered in nature. Our second guest speaker will be Sandy Komito, holder of the Big Year ABA record. Sandy was the featured speaker at the Laredo Birding Festival in February 2013 and received rave reviews by those who attended. He is fun and funny as well as knowledgeable. And our featured banquet speaker will be none other than Victor Emanuel. I really don’t need to tell any of you who Victor is but what some of you might not know is, Victor is a Past President of TOS. In addition to this great line up of speakers we will have afternoon sessions dealing with many aspects of birding presented by experts on various subjects. And, as for birding opportunities, you will have your choice of field trips to Bastrop, Bell, Blanco, Burnet, Comal, Coryell, Llano, Travis, and Williamson Counties. So save the dates! |
