Field Trip Descriptions:

Space on some field trips is limited and will be available on a first come, first served basis. All field trips are offered both Friday and Saturday. Please indicate your preference by number (first choice = #1, etc) for each day. Carpooling will be necessary for getting to and from the field trip sites. The temperatures can be as low as the mid 50's during the evening to as high as the mid 90's during the day.

Cooks Slough Birding Sanctuary and Fort Inge (Full Day, Moderate) 7:30AM departure Habitats: Sewage ponds and the Leona River What to Expect:  Ringed Kingfisher, Cactus Wren, Pyrrhuloxia, and waterfowl

Fort Clark Springs (Full Day, Easy) 6:30AM departure Habitats:  Las Moras Creek and Springs and South Texas brush What to Expect:  Great Kiskadee, Couch’s Kingbird, Olive Sparrow, and Red-shouldered Hawk

Garner State Park (Full Day, Moderate) 6:45AM departure Habitats:  Frio River and Hill Country. What to Expect: Black Phoebe, Green Kingfisher, Scrub Jay, Clay-colored Robin

Park Chalk Bluff and Open V Ranch (Full Day, Moderate) 7:00AM departure Habitats: Nueces River and South Texas brush What to Expect: Yellow-throated Warblers, Brown Creeper, Vireos, and Yellow-Breasted Chat

Rice River Resort and La Pryor Area (Full Day, Moderate) 6:30AM departure Habitats: Nueces River and Boynton Reservoir What to Expect: Wood Duck, Green Jay, Crested Caracara, Harris Hawk and Barred Owl

Huebner Ranch and Utopia Park (Full Day, Moderate) 6:45AM departure Habitats: Hill Country What to Expect:  Scrub Jay, Chihuahuan Raven, Western Bluebird, and Cedar Waxwing

Lost Maples (Full Day, Moderate) 6:15AM departure Habitats: Sabinal River and Hill Country What to Expect: Vireos, Zone-tailed Hawk, Canyon Wren and Green Kingfisher

Hart and Hind Ranch and Frio River Cabins (Full Day, Moderate) 6:45AM departure Habitats: Hill Country and canyons What to Expect: Bushtit, Hermit thrush, Zone-tailed Hawk, and Canyon Wren

Concan Area (Half Day, Easy) 7:00AM departure Habitat: Frio River and woodland What to Expect: Green Kingfisher, Bushtit, Kingbirds, Black Phoebe, and Olive Sparrow

Carper Ranch and Uvalde (Half Day, Easy) 7:30AM departure Habitat: South Texas brush and feeders at local residences What to Expect: Black-tailed Gnatcatcher, Cassin’s sparrow and other sparrows

Uvalde Fish Hatchery and La Posada (Half Day, Easy) 7:30AM departure Habitats: Nueces River, ponds, and old fields What to Expect: Belted Kingfisher, Black-bellied Whistling Ducks and other water fowl

River Bend Outdoor Ranch and Driskill Feed Yard (Half Day, Easy) 7:00AM departure Habitats: Sabinal River, South Texas brush and grain fields What to Expect: Bronzed Cowbird, White-tailed Kite, and Yellow-Breasted Chat

Shudde Ranch (Half Day, Easy) 7:00AM departure Habitats: Sabinal River, South Texas brush and grain fields What to Expect: Crested Caracara, Harris Hawk, Yellow-breasted Chat, and Green Kingfisher
