Sabine Woods TOS currently owns and manages "Sabine Woods" bird sanctuary on the Upper Texas Coast south of Beaumont, Texas. This special property is a well-known haven for migrating birds. The Sabine Woods property is open to all TOS members and members of other contributing organizations. The sanctuary is located four miles west of Sabine Pass on SH87 on the north side of the road at the western boundary of Texas Point NWR.
Effects of Hurricane Rita (September 24, 2005)On September 24, 2005 Sabine Woods was in the direct path of Hurricane Rita. These pictures were taken on October 2 or 3, 2005. The show almost total defoliation. No one from TOS has been able to get into Sabine Pass as of yet (entry is still restricted to residents at this time) for an on the ground assessment, but second had reports indicate that the boardwalks were no damaged and none of the large oaks were lost.
