Birding Events Around Texas

TOS has some interesting birding and outdoor opportunities to share!

First, at the far southeast corner of Texas lies a remote and unique coastal park. Sea Rim State Park has nearly 2 miles of Gulf shoreline and 4,000 acres of marshlands.

At this park, you can camp, go birding and beach combing, paddle in a canoe or kayak, swim, fish, hunt (in season) and walk. Stroll along the Gambusia Nature Trail Boardwalk, which takes you through the marsh.

Recently the park has added a monthly "Learn to Bird" event. They invite attendees to walk the Gambusia Marsh Trail and learn to bird with the marsh birds around.

Take a look at this and other exciting outdoor learning experiences HERE.

Second, just a few miles east of Austin you can visit Crowe's Nest Farm, a working farm and animal rescue sanctuary and is open to the public.

They host Fall Family Fun Days every weekend in October, so just two more to go! They have a raptor show at 11:30, 1:30, 3:30 on Saturday and Sunday. These are structured to teach young children about raptors, and typically will include some type of hawk, and at least two owls. At the end of the presentation, children and adults can come up and pet/feel the birds, and observe them close up. (These are all birds that were from Texas Parks & Wildlife Rescue.)

Their phone number is 512-272-4418, or email them at crowesnestfarmtx@gmail.com. Thanks to Dineen Majcher for this information.
